On saturday 15 October 2011 a cavalcade of trucks left from Napier at 9am and Hastings at 9.20am, converging on Whakatu to park up for display and rides.
On behalf of all the organising committee for our bi-annual event, I would like to personally thank all our helpers, organisers, bank staff and sponsors who made the day possible... and a huge thank you also to the staff and management of ENZA and Turners and Growers at Whakatu for making your site available to us.
From the early planning days right up to, and well beyond, you guys were and remain awesome to work with and remain faithful to our cause and the Charity (Trucking for Hawkes Bay Child Cancer Charitable Trust) and what we have developed and built up over the last 20 years.
2011 saw us collect close to $10,000.00 in cash and donations for Little Elms and it never ceases to amaze us as Trustees the generosity of the Hawkes Bay business sector and the public of our local and wider communities - you guys all rock!
An interesting fact from our day is that there are not just a huge local contingent of local trucks and drivers, but there are guys that travelled from as far afield as Wellington and Auckland regions to participate in our Cavalcade of Trucks from both Napier and Hasting to Whakatu, and the show and shine that happens for the duration of the day for the public whilst enjoying a vast array of entertainment.
A huge blast on the "air horns" goes out to all of the fleet owners and drivers who dedicate their time, fuel, Road User Charges and pride to this day's event. We estimate the true value of all the fixed costs from the trucks alone would exceed $60,000.00 dollars. Your donations go towards the day-to-day running and the future development plans of the Little Elms project in Orchard Road.
Sandy Walker has stepped aside as the Chairman for our Ride in a Truck Day, but remains on the panel as a valued member of the organising committee, as well as a trustee. Thank you Sandy for your passion, drive, time and commitment over the last twenty years pulling this day together - an exceptional job well done, again, thank you.
As the motions of nomination, and seconding had taken their turn, I have been handed the steering wheel to take over as Ride in a Truck Day Chairman for 2013 and look forward to challenges and the fun that this role will bring. Thank you all for your vote of confidence. We also have a list of local transport identities who are willing to volunteer their time for the organising committee for 2013, thanks guys, we will be tapping you on the shoulder in due course.
We will endeavor to keep you all advised and updated on the plans via this web site as we go along. We will always maintain a good level of entertainment and are keen to hear from anybody or any organisations that would like to add to the day. So a big thanks, guys and gals. Without your help and dedication this event would not be possible to hold at this level.
